A Simple, Hassle-Free Way to Search, Shop, and Purchase Cemetery Property, Funerals, and Cremations Online

The Challenges

Consumer Challenge

  • The current process for buying cemetery property and other deathcare-related products is archaic.

  • In addition to the obvious stress and emotion tied to this type of transaction, the process is full of surprises, which only adds to the anxiety.

  • With a complete lack of transparency, the cost of purchasing cemetery property tends to be high.

Industry Challenge

  • While the industry generates plenty of leads, close rates are low due to insufficient follow-up.

  • Industry turnover is near 80% annually, with more jobs than people to fill them, one of the industry’s biggest challenges.

  • That revolving door leads to an increase in hiring and training costs and an inconsistent consumer experience.

Market Challenge

  • 35% of consumers want to purchase online

  • 50% of consumers won’t go to a funeral home or cemetery to plan

Our Story

Our founders' journey is a blend of complementary expertise. After over a decade together at J.D. Power, George Owens and Mike Cooperman pursued separate paths. George led customer experience for the world’s largest funeral home and cemetery consolidator, while Mike spearheaded communications and marketing for various technology startups and agencies.

In 2018, George voiced a lingering question: “I can buy anything online, why can’t I buy a cemetery plot?”

This sparked the creation of Guidant.

Mike utilized his background in startup technology to transform the concept into a viable business model. Both founders were astonished to discover that the process had never been patented, so they did just that. The global pandemic further emphasized the need for online shopping, solidifying the foundation of our innovative Guidant platform, enabling funeral homes and cemeteries a seamless solution for selling their property online.
